Archive for April, 2009

I really should make it a point to update this at least once per week. Trying slightly to improve on that.

First off, last Saturday’s Salvage run netted me some new shinies. I am now 4/15 on Ares! Deimos’s Leggings and Phobos’s Cuisses dropped, and I won the lot on both. Now I just need the 25 for the feet and I’ll have myself a pair of Ares’s Sollerets!

Immediately afterwards, I saw a shout in Whitegate for Waking Dreams (the Diabolos prime fight) that needed a RDM/DRK. Offered my services, and not too long afterwards, I was sitting in West Sarutabaruta with my new avatar. Took me long enough to get that, as I flagged the quest in… early 2006, heh.

The next morning, I participated in my linkshell’s Sunday event for the first time. I forced myself to wake up because they were doing one of my most hated pop NMs, Alastor Antlion. I am now the owner of a pair of Rostrum Pumps for my Bard. Dynamis was afterwards, and we did Jeuno. Full cleared with just under 3 minutes to spare!

Monday night saw the linkshell fell Overlord Bakgodek, granting me yet another new title: Overlord Overthrower. Afterwards I got help from linkshell members to defeat Fenrir Prime finally as well. He went down signicantly faster than I was expected. I can now be That Guy(TM) in the Dunes with all the avatars! Just need to get a few more spirit pacts and I’ll be set to level it to 37 or higher.

Wednesday’s Dynamis was Buburimu. I didn’t expect to get anything, so when we accidentally linked a significant portion of the ravens, effectively recreating Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, and Valor Gauntlets -1 dropped, I decided to spend some points on it. While this will preclude me from being able to store the set when my surcoat finally drops, it will allow me to use a much more aesthetically pleasing item for JAs (vs. Iron Ram Dastanas), as it has Enmity+4. Now I just need to get 28 more Ordelle Bronzepieces and I can upgrade it. Guess I’ll be patient.

I got my security token a week or so ago as well and I absolutely love it. The extra inventory from the satchel helps tons for random items I may need at a moment’s notice. Now I just need to get a few stacks of cheap accuracy food to keep in it for emergencies.

I spent a few hours in Kuftal and the Boyahda Tree working the latent on the Club of Trials. Ended up breaking it last night while doing Fields of Valor in Cape Teriggan, so I went back to Windurst to get the Map to the Annals of Truth. Time to smack down a pot in Ro’Maeve, heh.

But that’s all for now. Hopefully my set party will exp tonight. Bard needs 75 badly!

After Dynamis last night, I went to Rolanberry Fields to bazaar the currency I got, and while I was there, I perused some of the other bazaars to see what I could find. One person had a stack of Ancient Beastcoins for 7300g/ea. As I’ve accumulated a decent sum of gil in the past few weeks, I decided I’d quit being cheap and bought the 55 coins I needed to get my Loquacious Earring. I did a few tests as Red Mage with Utsusemi to see if I could justify retaining my Dusk Ledelsens. Determining that with the Loquac. Earring, the only way to further lessen my recast time is to have a Bard with double March on me, I listed the ledelsens on the AH.

While this may come back to haunt me as Paladin, I can always just farm up some Zeni and pop Armed Gears or Achamoth in an attempt to get Aurum Sabatons to tide me over until I can get Homam Gambieras and/or Boxer’s Mantle. For now I prefer to use Gallant Leggings +1 for both Ichi and Ni in the vain hope that a little bit more shield skill will let me block attacks while casting. I’m still keeping my Dusk Gloves though.

So this brings me to needing 225 more Ancient Beastcoins to get Boxer’s Mantle and Brutal and Musical Earrings. I’m thinking I’ll get Boxer’s next, then Musical, then finally Brutal. Brutal last may be madness, but I already use Joyeuse on Red Mage and Paladin, so the extra DA from it will slightly distill Joyeuse’s already huge DA rate. I will be sure to have it before DRK hits 75, however.

To me, the best thing about the Loquac. Earring isn’t the extra Fast Cast but the MP+30. As a frequently MP-starved RDM (from casting a myriad of spells in short periods of time), 30 more MP nets me almost another Refresh or Haste or Cure III, so I will relish using it and will probably full-time it and Ethereal for MND enfeebles til I can get a Communion Earring or Mamool Ja Earring or get lucky with the Ivory Key, and at that point I’ll swap Ethereal for the MND earring. I’ll continue to swap Ethereal for Moldavite for nukes, though. Losing 1 INT from my beloved Morion Earring isn’t going to hurt my nukes that much.

The worst part about getting the earring (besides expending a decent chunk of gil, heh) is that I get to modify all my macros. Fun stuff indeed. I managed to fix most of them last night, but I will definitely finish it up tonight before Sky.

I did the math on the remaining amount of coins I need, and in order to afford it right now, I’d have to sell my Peacock Charm, which is something I absolutely do not want to do. I’ll just be patient and accumulate coins from doing Limbus with my LS and money from Dynamis currency and other random drops.

But the SAM in my Friday evening set beat Maat last night, which means it’s almost Hagun Time. I get to read up on Sheep in Antlion’s Clothing strategies now for our weekly spamming of said ENM. The price of Haguns and Forager’s Mantles gives me impetus to do that ENM on a weekly basis, even after all of us get our hands on Foragers’ and Haguns. Perhaps this is the end of my money problems? Nah, still always stuff to buy.

I admit it, I used the Fortifications to skill Scythe to lv50 cap for DRK since I was stupid and used GS only when leveling it for sub.

That being said, I contend that SE added Dancer to enable melees to solo. What does this mean? Gear defensively (eat Tavnazian Tacos, etc), sub Dancer, get Signet, and go pick on DC or EM crabs to cap skills. It’s not that difficult. You can solo or duo Dancer to 37 in a fairly quick amount of time.

Shield 276!

To start off, I finally capped Shield Skill on Paladin! I tried PLD/RDM vs. Pucks in the Den of Rancor, but that ended in death, so I went back to my old friends the Steelshells as PLD/DNC. I proceeded to pull only EM or T ones and beat them down with my Warp Cudgel so it would maximize fight time. I believe each one took over 30 minutes to defeat as I had to recast Protect IV and refresh food. I also got Club past 230 so I can flag Black Halo now if I so choose. I will probably save that for last as the Club of Trials is excellent for an Earth resist build, but I plan to just use my Kirin’s Pole or elemental staves for resist builds so it is a moot point.

I wore the following gear to maximize shield skill+ and evasion- to force shield to proc as much as possible while maintaining Haste and Accuracy to enable the TP that /DNC feeds on:

Warp Cudgel / Koenig Shield / blank / Tiphia Sting
Walahra Turban / Shield Torque / Ethereal Earring / Buckler Earring
Haubergeon / Dusk Gloves / Woodsman Ring / Woodsman Ring
Amemet Mantle +1 / Swift Belt / Valor Breeches / Gallant Leggings +1

In addition to that, I used Reprisal whenever its timer was up. Seemed to work rather nicely. I occasionally swapped Peacock Charm in for Shield Torque if I was having trouble hitting. Losing 7 Shield didn’t really affect me too adversely.

A Crystalline Prophecy hasn’t been too disappointing, but the whole Dragon’s Aery-like situations of Too Weak mobs is amusing, to say the least. I am up to the first BC fight, and while I’ve traversed Fei’Yin on numerous occasions, wandering it to find the glowy spots was actually somewhat fun! I hope to finish it with LS mates soon, as then I will have my Nuevo Coselete!

Now I just need to get another 280 Ancient Beastcoins so I can get my Loquacious Earring, Boxer’s Mantle, Musical Earring, and Brutal Earring. Additionally, Seiryu needs to give up a martial abjuration: head that I can lot on to get Koenig Schaller. Quite fun stuff indeed.

I have but one word for Composure: awesome.
The recast time increase is a very manageable 25%, but the duration increase is 300%. Accuracy bonus seems to be a straight 15, which is a very nice amount for free. While I was farming Enthunder II, I managed to aggro Bonze Marberry and an Iron Maiden, so after I felled the Hover Tank, I hit Flee and bolted for the exit, managing to make it out alive. I owe my survival to the triple duration of all my buffs saving me the MP I needed to cure. This completely changes how I will play RDM!

Enspell II is pretty nice, but the coolest thing is, Samba effects proc on Joyeuse’s second hit, which is quite nuts.

Haven’t had a chance to see what the WHM spells and JAs are like, but I’m sure I’ll find out soon enough.

That’s all for now!
