On This Blog’s Title

When I started this blog in early 2008, I forget if it had a name other than simply “jukor.net”. At some point, I had some inspiration, so I decided to name this blog “Magic Fencer Report” with a subtitle of 魔法剣士物語 (mahou kenshi monogatari), which doesn’t translate directly, it carries the same idea.

Why “Magic Fencer Report” then? At the time, I had decided this would be an FFXI blog, and my main then (and now) in FFXI is Red Mage, and even though in those days Red Mages generally weren’t “allowed” to melee in party situations, I certainly went around using sword enhancement spells fighting mobs on my own a lot. And since a lot of Red Mage’s iconic weapons over the years resemble modern fencing swords, it made sense, plus, using “fencer” is a bit more gender neutral!

As the years went on, I played other games, but in every single one of them my “main” used a sword of some sort (or I was able to transmogrify/glamour a different weapon type to a sword), and oftentimes that particular job/class used magic as part of its kit, such as Paladin in WoW or FFXIV.

Speaking of Paladin… I’ll probably make a post about my affinity for that particular job/class relatively soon.

Until next time!
